the weekend in bites and pieces

Friday

A bunch of us go out to Dallas BBQ for those Texas sized margaritas and test tube shots and some food. Be tee dubs, did you know you can advertise in Dallas BBQ's in-store channel? Yup, now you can reach your target demographic: drunk people.

Then we head to Harefield Road where I proceed to buy bottles of vinho verde because they're selling them for $16 a bottle and I love a good deal. I'm such an immigrant!

Saturday

Boo and I go out for a romantic date night at Rye restaurant in Williamsburg.

We have French 75 cocktails (my fave at the moment) and basket of rye bread cus it's called Rye! Get it?  For entrees, he gets the fluke and I get the roast chicken with fingerling potatoes. I hope there is not another potato famine because I don't know what restaurants in Brooklyn would serve with their proteins. Oh, and if that wasn't enough we also shared a side of mac n cheese that was the BOMB ASS mac n cheese. And we also had a banana split for dessert.

There was also some great people watching!

-The table next to us kept complaining that the restaurant was too dark and that they couldn't see anything. It was actually kinda amusing.

-And in the table in front of us was an Asian guy and his kinda fobby parents and his white girlfriend. The parents were drinking coca cola which I thought was adorable. I told Boo that was a preview of what it would be like to have dinner with MY family.

When we got home, we were so tired from our food coma and watched an episode of Walking Dead.  It doesn't get anymore romantic than that.

After a decadent weekend of barbecue and mac n cheese, I wanted to end Sunday evening on a healthier note. So I attempted to make a miso glazed cod with soba noodles. It sounded like a fairly straight forward and simple recipe but I managed to botch it up.

First of all, the recipe asked for yellow or white miso. I go to Whole Foods and the only miso they have is Gen Mai miso. And it's in a bag. How am I supposed to know if it's yellow or white???

Then the recipe said to marinate the cod for up to four hours. Who has that kind of time? I marinate it for 45 minutes and go for a walk on the East River with my boo. When we come back,  I stick the cod in the broiler. While the fish is broiling I make my soba noodles and toss it with some soy sauce and sriracha. It was pretty good except a little watery. What the hell. I guess I should've drained it more. I have no idea.

The cod turned out a little bland. I can't tell if I need to put more sugar in the miso paste or let it marinate longer. Boo said it was great and ate it all up. Bfs make the best food critics.

So that was my weekend! I re-read some of my old weekend recaps and liked how they brought back some fun memories. I think I'm gonna continue jotting down the banal details of my life so I can reflect on them later. So if you enjoy banal details, you're in luck, dear reader!
